"Shirei Corona" with Rabbi Dina Shargell
Many popular songs of Israel composed and performed since March 2020 have been inspired by the Coronavirus pandemic. Along with material that was newly created, older songs suddenly took on new meaning at the beginning of this decade. They were replayed and some were remade, sometimes as pandemic-era parodies. Through the magic of Zoom, we will enjoy audio and video clips of the Hebrew songs and share insights about each one. Knowledge of Hebrew is not required. Links and translations will be provided for the lyric
Rabbi Dina Shargel has been enjoying the music of Israel from a very young age. Her parents, a Conservative rabbi and a Jewish historian, provided a loving home steeped in Jewish practice and learning. She earned a B. A. in music from Brandeis University and spent nearly 20 years as a music teacher before changing course and enrolling at the Jewish Theological Seminary, where she received an M. A. in Bible and rabbinic ordination. For 16 fruitful years, she served in Conservative congregations. Now she is delighted to offer private instruction and classes, along with ritual and pastoral services, in the wider Jewish community.
