Notes from Cantor Avima

One of my many goals upon stepping into my dual role as Cantor and Director of the Religious School  has been to help build upon and develop the musical element of our services and our general congregational life. To my delight, I was made aware of the many talented musicians among our Adath Shalom family and the many ongoing musical projects. I felt it was incumbent upon me to build on the momentum. With that goal in mind, we started the Adath Shalom Adult Singers and the Adath Shalom Young Singers with the goal of building repertoire which will enhance our shabbat services.  This last year we had some wonderful events. We celebrated Shabbat Shirah in the winter with the participation of our Adult Singers and our Young Singers. Our young singers included to Lily and Ruby Colasante, Marley Sandler and Emma Wolff.   I have to thank Carol Meiseles (violin) and Alan Koenigsberg  (piano) for collaborating with me on the Yom Hashoah commemoration this Spring.  Our Adult Singers rehearsed all summer to bring us the acapella shabbat this past Friday night.   This was a wonderful occasion that brought out alot of members. I want to thank the Adath Shalom singers who not only sang, but helped arrange and  choose music for our most recent event.  It was truly a team effort. A bit Todah Rabbah to our Adult Singers: Alan Berlinsky, Jeremy Dain, Larry Edelstein, Karen Kamenetsky and Sue Silbert. 

This coming Friday night (6:45, before our service),  I am collaborating with two more talented musicians, Alan Koenigsberg (piano) and Andy Silbert (clarinet) in a presentation of contemporary Jewish music to bring us into shabbat.  I am looking forward to future collaborations and musical projects with our talented members because I truly believe that a musical congregation is a spiritual congregation.  If you have suggestions in how we can further capitalize on our talent or if you would like to join our Adult Singers or have a child that would like to join our Young Singers, please reach out to me.
