Shalom Friends;

Below, please find a greeting we prepared and sent to the Ofakim Community, our partner community in Israel (located in Southern Israel) in conclusion of Passover and wishing them a Happy Israel Independence Day.

 Ofakim and Metrowest have been in a partnership since the 1990’s- a partnership dramatically strengthened and reinforced this past year in the shadow of the attacks on October 7th when terrorists infiltrated the quiet town and murdered fifty innocent citizens, many of whom organized to fight back and drive the attackers away.  We have begun a school partnership program between our seventh graders and a group of Ofakim seventh graders which we hope to continue to develop.  We also offer a monthly meeting between Adath Shalom members and Ofakim residents to speak informally and in a friendly zoom setting about a variety of topics.

Dear Friends from Ofakim, our brothers and sisters, shalom!

I hope that the Passover holiday was peaceful and a source of strength for you and your families, despite the shadow of tragedy, the hostage crisis and war and the ongoing threat that we all experience and that it provided a quantum of the joy and light of the Festival of Freedom.

We want you to know that there is not a day that goes by that we do not think of you with love, empathy and brotherhood.  These are difficult times but our unity gives strength, faith and resilience.  I asked our member families to send pictures of their Pesach Tables to share with you and let you know that at every Seder we prayed and spoke about you, about our hostages and prayed for their safe return and for the safety and security of Israel. We look forward to staying in touch and continuing to build the living bridge of love and support between our two communities-

With blessings for a safe and celebratory Yom Ha’atzma’ut, Israel Independence Day filled with hope and security for the future for you, for all of Israel and peace with her neighbors and the security and well being of us, your family in the diaspora- and all of our children who we pray can come together to build a better future-

יקירי אופקים, אחינו ואחיותינו שלום!

אני מקווה שחג הפסח עבר עליכם ועל משפחותיכם בשלום ושלמרות צל טרגדיה, משבר המלחמה והאיום המתמשך שכולנו חווים, הפקתם קורטוב של נחמה, שמחה ואורה של חג החירות.  

אנחנו רוצים שתדעו שאין יום אחד שעובר שאנחנו לא חושבים עליכם באהבה, אהדה, אחווה והזדהות..  אלה ימים קשים לכולנו אבל אחדותינו היא מעניקה כח, אמונה וחוסן.  ביקשתי מהמשפחות שלנו לשלוח לי תמונות של שולחנות הפסח שלנו ככרטיסי ברכה- ובשבוע הבא נחגוג את חג הזיכרון ויום העצמאות ביחד עם כל הקהילות של הפדרצייה היהודית של מטרווסט ניו ג׳רסי. אנחנו נלהבים ושמחים להמשיך לקיים ולחזק את הקשר בינינו ומאחלים לכם חג העצמאות לישראל
