Seasons of Our Joy

Chevre (Friends),

Spring is on its way! That means Purim is almost here and Pesach will arrive just as we finish eating all that delicious hamantaschen, (gluten-free or otherwise!). So, why do I feel sad? Unfortunately, the answer is obvious: things are not the same as they used to be, and we are not all together, looking forward to celebrating together, in the same old way.

Some of you are out and about, traveling, dining, meeting with friends, going to concerts, and that is terrific. There are many others who are not ready or able to do the same, and holidays like Purim and Pesach are challenging reminders of what they've lost. Besides sending the traditional Purim gift baskets of mishloach manot, please add some action items to your to-do lists.

Please make a phone call to someone who could use a friendly hello and a listening pair of ears. Please send a card to brighten someone's day. Please remember to remember the family, friends, and congregants who are not able to "get back to normal" the way you may be able to.

For those of you who are high risk and still need to remain mostly at home, please know that you are thought of, and that there are many ways Adath Shalom provides opportunities of virtual connection. Sign in to the website and go to the calendar! You'll see classes and services and special programs all there for the clicking! I won't tell you that "you're not alone", because when we are not able to all be together the way we were two years ago, before the cursed pandemic hit our world, and you are mostly home alone, well, you are alone, in many ways, and it would be disrespectful for me to say otherwise. But, you can connect and I hope you will take advantage of the ways in which you are invited to do so.

Stay safe. Be well. And may you all celebrate the upcoming seasons of our joy!
